The effects of Hurricane Matthew will hopefully make politicians recognize that climate change does exist. Even as sea levels are rapidly rising above their stable level, some political figures like Marco Rubio, who is running for Senator again, still does not believe in the existence of climate change. This refusal to acknowledge global warming put Florida at a disadvantage as they waited for the Hurricane Matthew to hit and destroy their homes because the only financial support they are currently gaining for planned protection against another natural disaster is at a local level, which will not suffice for the amount of destruction that will occur. The sea level is still rising along the east coast, which means more damage is bound to take place within Florida if action is not taken soon to prevent the flooding of the state.
The rise of the sea level is not new information, yet residents of Florida and politicians among the United States refuse to accept the fact climate change is occurring. In order to prevent the harmful effects from occurring due to the increase in sea level, the federal government and state government must create a plan and policies to lessen the destruction of homes and lives due to flooding. This action must happen immediately if the country does not want to serve worse consequences. news.nationalgeographic.com/2016/10/hurricane-matthew-storm-surges-predict-sea-level-rise-btf/
